My trip back to Utah...just me and the kids...

So I realized that I never told my story about flying home alone with the kids! Maybe because I still get angry when I think about it! LOL!

Well the afternoon had come and it was time to head to the airport, so we said our good bye's to Jacob and hopped into our Taxi and off we went we arrived at the airport 2 hours early so it was about 4:30 p.m. we wait in the 50+ person long line to check in because there is only one check in counter at the shack of an airport in St Vincent.....it took an hour and by the time I checked in our flight had been delayed an hour.....so I decided to go through security anyway as they told me that would be best since I would be one of the first ones to board because I had children....so we wait and wait and wait it has now been 2 hours since our original take off time passed so 8:45ish finally and 9:30 they call us all for a re check....which means back out of security and back to the one person manned check in counter with 65 people wanting to know what is going on....mind you my children haven't eaten since 3 pm cause we were supposed to land at our first destination by 7:30 so planned to feed them at the airport in Trinidad......well now the airline worker proceeds to tell us our flight has been CANCELED and we all need to wait and re book for the following day or later and those of us that have a connection need to wait at the end of the line to make further arrangements, so here I sit with 2 screaming starving kids waiting to make arrangements.....finally at 11:30 the lady tells me they wont know anything until 6 am and they will call me by no later that 7 am so I get in a taxi and head back home by now all three of us are in tears, get home feed the kids and get them asleep, I finally get myself a few hours of sleep as well but am furious when I wake up and 7:30 and have not heard from the airline, so I start making phone calls and the lady tells me that They cant get my connecting airline to put me on a flight for 5 days....I came unglued cause I knew it was a lie so I told her I would take care of it myself and to get me off the island now! LOL she was quiet for a moment and then said "okay miss have you and your children here tonight for the 6:25 flight, but you realize you will have to pay your other airline for changing your own flight and not letting us do it?" my response was not nice but something to the effect of "we will see about that!" so I hung up with her and called my international airline and spoke the greatest customer service representative EVER! I explained my situation and what had happened and he said "they are lying I can have you on a flight first thing tomorrow morning if you can get off the island tonight, THEY just don't want to pay the $150 a ticket we charge for a flight change" I was one angry women! I told him I would take the chance and to put me on the flight! Needless to say I didn't pay a dime to change my ticket but I am positive that my other airline got a charge for it!

Round two......the nice thing about the airport cancelling flights is that they pay for your taxi to and from the airport until they get you out! Taxi comes back to get us and I beg Jacob to come with me this time! of course he does but I made sure to call the airport as I was getting into the taxi and ask if the flight was on time and they told me yes, I was relieved and then 15 minutes later I get to the airport and the flight has been DELAYED AGAIN I just keep saying this is not happening holy crap! So the hours begin to crawl by 1 then 2 and then finally we get word that our plane had left Barbados and is on the way, but I don't get to excited they tell us to get through security and be waiting cause we are getting left in we aren't ready to board in one hour, so again we say our goodbyes to Jacob and head though security and low and behold 30 minutes later the flight shows up! Now as along as we can get on the plane and take off we might actually make it! Of course by now there are several very angry people who have been just as inconvenienced as I was so we were ready to go, they let me and one other lady traveling with a child out the door first and wait for us to get settled before letting anyone else on the plane, so now I just have to keep telling myself we will get out of here, we will get out of here! Hey they plane starts to move and we are actually Taxiing out onto the run way! Hey we are building speed! Oh my gosh we have lifted off the ground! We made it off St. Vincent! Wahoo! we land in Trinidad at about 11p.m. get through customs and immigration and call for our hotel taxi to come get us we get to our hotel room and it is now midnight we have to be back to the airport at 6 am for our next flight! I am not complaining though we had it out of St. Vincent! The day of travel goes great we didn't have any problem and even got upgraded to premium seating for our longest flight! We were so excited to see the American Flag when we landed in the US we could hardly contain ourselves!

Needless after much frustration and anger we made it home and with no damage other  than my anger management issues LOL!!
Well we have a very uneventful term so far on the island we have gone to the beach a few times and the kids have really enjoyed that. The last few weeks we have had large amounts of rain which is normal for this time of year after all it is rainy season....however we have never experienced 2 days straight of rain down here and we did a couple weeks ago, it makes for a really cold shower when your water is heated by solar power and there is no solar for 2 whole days! The kids were not excited about that at all Kate did learn the word Cold in those two days though!

Kohl and I went on an adventure down to Kingstown 2 weeks ago and of course were numbers 24 and 25 crammed on to the Reggae bus for the ride into town so of course Kohl got crammed on to the bench behind me (he hates when we don't get to sit by each other, other people are touching him and he doesn't like it) and we were almost into town we had a whole half a mile to go to the in town bus stop and a car turned in front of us and we hit it! Luckily our driver was paying attention and could see that the guy wasn't going to wait so we were able to slow down to about 15 mph before we actually clipped his back end....it scared me to death but kohl just laughed and said "that smash made me drop my umbrella mom!" I was really hoping we could make it off the island without any kind of vehicle accident but alas the island never seems to disappoint me!

I haven't been able to take any pictures these past few month because of course I left my battery charger to my camera in Utah....however my in-laws are coming to visit and bringing it down to me so I will be able to get a few more pictures before we leave the island!

Kohl has been doing good we try to keep him entertained but with all the rain we have been having we have had to spend a lot of time in the house. No kid likes being in the house for days on end but we make the best of it, Kate has actually started saying a few words YAY!! So we are making progress....it might be slow but we are getting there!

Jacob is living the med school dream ....studying non stop and living in a text book! He is just about to finish up this term of school and then it is on to the last term here on the island! Yay! As great of an experience as this has been I will be glad when this part of the adventure is over!

Well until next time........

High winds and rough seas......

Well we have officially been here for the 2/3 of the term Jacob took his second exam Friday and that marks 10 weeks! Some days it feels like time is crawling and others its not so bad. We are passing the time with a lot of reading and playing in the yard, I think Fluffy could use a break from Kate but he really is a good dog.

We have yet to have a day without high winds since we landed on the island so we have made all of 3 trips to the beach in 10 weeks! I know pathetic right? The sea has been so rough with the high winds that it makes me nervous to take the kids alone since Kohl has become such a fish! He loves being out with his snorkel he could do that for hours and not have it phase him one bit, Kate however didn't enjoy our trip to the beach as much its almost as though she had forgotten all about the water and now we are starting from scratch again with her, We also had a terrible time with the jelly fish our last trip to the beach but once again I was the only one that was stung that makes 4 for me! It must be the super white legs that attract them!

We officially entered hurricane season on the 1st of June and they are predicting 11-14 named storms for this hurricane season, which is about average, normally we don't hear about that many living in the U.S. cause the news only covers ones that affect the U.S., but living in the Caribbean you hear about ALL of them, hopefully our living on the end of the hurricane belt will keep us safe for another hurricane season.

We are finally getting some rain! It has been so dry here St. Vincent is struggling with one of the worst droughts in many many years! I have never seen such a brown island before! Things are finally starting to green up though and in Kohl's words "its starting to look like a jungle again", we desperately need the rain just like everyone back home!

As I sit here typing this the rain is falling YAY!! However this kind of weather makes us very lazy and Kohl has been asking to watch a movie so that is where we will be the rest of the day! hope everyone is doing well! Until next time.......
