My trip back to Utah...just me and the kids...

So I realized that I never told my story about flying home alone with the kids! Maybe because I still get angry when I think about it! LOL!

Well the afternoon had come and it was time to head to the airport, so we said our good bye's to Jacob and hopped into our Taxi and off we went we arrived at the airport 2 hours early so it was about 4:30 p.m. we wait in the 50+ person long line to check in because there is only one check in counter at the shack of an airport in St Vincent.....it took an hour and by the time I checked in our flight had been delayed an hour.....so I decided to go through security anyway as they told me that would be best since I would be one of the first ones to board because I had children....so we wait and wait and wait it has now been 2 hours since our original take off time passed so 8:45ish finally and 9:30 they call us all for a re check....which means back out of security and back to the one person manned check in counter with 65 people wanting to know what is going on....mind you my children haven't eaten since 3 pm cause we were supposed to land at our first destination by 7:30 so planned to feed them at the airport in Trinidad......well now the airline worker proceeds to tell us our flight has been CANCELED and we all need to wait and re book for the following day or later and those of us that have a connection need to wait at the end of the line to make further arrangements, so here I sit with 2 screaming starving kids waiting to make arrangements.....finally at 11:30 the lady tells me they wont know anything until 6 am and they will call me by no later that 7 am so I get in a taxi and head back home by now all three of us are in tears, get home feed the kids and get them asleep, I finally get myself a few hours of sleep as well but am furious when I wake up and 7:30 and have not heard from the airline, so I start making phone calls and the lady tells me that They cant get my connecting airline to put me on a flight for 5 days....I came unglued cause I knew it was a lie so I told her I would take care of it myself and to get me off the island now! LOL she was quiet for a moment and then said "okay miss have you and your children here tonight for the 6:25 flight, but you realize you will have to pay your other airline for changing your own flight and not letting us do it?" my response was not nice but something to the effect of "we will see about that!" so I hung up with her and called my international airline and spoke the greatest customer service representative EVER! I explained my situation and what had happened and he said "they are lying I can have you on a flight first thing tomorrow morning if you can get off the island tonight, THEY just don't want to pay the $150 a ticket we charge for a flight change" I was one angry women! I told him I would take the chance and to put me on the flight! Needless to say I didn't pay a dime to change my ticket but I am positive that my other airline got a charge for it!

Round two......the nice thing about the airport cancelling flights is that they pay for your taxi to and from the airport until they get you out! Taxi comes back to get us and I beg Jacob to come with me this time! of course he does but I made sure to call the airport as I was getting into the taxi and ask if the flight was on time and they told me yes, I was relieved and then 15 minutes later I get to the airport and the flight has been DELAYED AGAIN I just keep saying this is not happening holy crap! So the hours begin to crawl by 1 then 2 and then finally we get word that our plane had left Barbados and is on the way, but I don't get to excited they tell us to get through security and be waiting cause we are getting left in we aren't ready to board in one hour, so again we say our goodbyes to Jacob and head though security and low and behold 30 minutes later the flight shows up! Now as along as we can get on the plane and take off we might actually make it! Of course by now there are several very angry people who have been just as inconvenienced as I was so we were ready to go, they let me and one other lady traveling with a child out the door first and wait for us to get settled before letting anyone else on the plane, so now I just have to keep telling myself we will get out of here, we will get out of here! Hey they plane starts to move and we are actually Taxiing out onto the run way! Hey we are building speed! Oh my gosh we have lifted off the ground! We made it off St. Vincent! Wahoo! we land in Trinidad at about 11p.m. get through customs and immigration and call for our hotel taxi to come get us we get to our hotel room and it is now midnight we have to be back to the airport at 6 am for our next flight! I am not complaining though we had it out of St. Vincent! The day of travel goes great we didn't have any problem and even got upgraded to premium seating for our longest flight! We were so excited to see the American Flag when we landed in the US we could hardly contain ourselves!

Needless after much frustration and anger we made it home and with no damage other  than my anger management issues LOL!!
Well we have a very uneventful term so far on the island we have gone to the beach a few times and the kids have really enjoyed that. The last few weeks we have had large amounts of rain which is normal for this time of year after all it is rainy season....however we have never experienced 2 days straight of rain down here and we did a couple weeks ago, it makes for a really cold shower when your water is heated by solar power and there is no solar for 2 whole days! The kids were not excited about that at all Kate did learn the word Cold in those two days though!

Kohl and I went on an adventure down to Kingstown 2 weeks ago and of course were numbers 24 and 25 crammed on to the Reggae bus for the ride into town so of course Kohl got crammed on to the bench behind me (he hates when we don't get to sit by each other, other people are touching him and he doesn't like it) and we were almost into town we had a whole half a mile to go to the in town bus stop and a car turned in front of us and we hit it! Luckily our driver was paying attention and could see that the guy wasn't going to wait so we were able to slow down to about 15 mph before we actually clipped his back end....it scared me to death but kohl just laughed and said "that smash made me drop my umbrella mom!" I was really hoping we could make it off the island without any kind of vehicle accident but alas the island never seems to disappoint me!

I haven't been able to take any pictures these past few month because of course I left my battery charger to my camera in Utah....however my in-laws are coming to visit and bringing it down to me so I will be able to get a few more pictures before we leave the island!

Kohl has been doing good we try to keep him entertained but with all the rain we have been having we have had to spend a lot of time in the house. No kid likes being in the house for days on end but we make the best of it, Kate has actually started saying a few words YAY!! So we are making progress....it might be slow but we are getting there!

Jacob is living the med school dream ....studying non stop and living in a text book! He is just about to finish up this term of school and then it is on to the last term here on the island! Yay! As great of an experience as this has been I will be glad when this part of the adventure is over!

Well until next time........

High winds and rough seas......

Well we have officially been here for the 2/3 of the term Jacob took his second exam Friday and that marks 10 weeks! Some days it feels like time is crawling and others its not so bad. We are passing the time with a lot of reading and playing in the yard, I think Fluffy could use a break from Kate but he really is a good dog.

We have yet to have a day without high winds since we landed on the island so we have made all of 3 trips to the beach in 10 weeks! I know pathetic right? The sea has been so rough with the high winds that it makes me nervous to take the kids alone since Kohl has become such a fish! He loves being out with his snorkel he could do that for hours and not have it phase him one bit, Kate however didn't enjoy our trip to the beach as much its almost as though she had forgotten all about the water and now we are starting from scratch again with her, We also had a terrible time with the jelly fish our last trip to the beach but once again I was the only one that was stung that makes 4 for me! It must be the super white legs that attract them!

We officially entered hurricane season on the 1st of June and they are predicting 11-14 named storms for this hurricane season, which is about average, normally we don't hear about that many living in the U.S. cause the news only covers ones that affect the U.S., but living in the Caribbean you hear about ALL of them, hopefully our living on the end of the hurricane belt will keep us safe for another hurricane season.

We are finally getting some rain! It has been so dry here St. Vincent is struggling with one of the worst droughts in many many years! I have never seen such a brown island before! Things are finally starting to green up though and in Kohl's words "its starting to look like a jungle again", we desperately need the rain just like everyone back home!

As I sit here typing this the rain is falling YAY!! However this kind of weather makes us very lazy and Kohl has been asking to watch a movie so that is where we will be the rest of the day! hope everyone is doing well! Until next time.......

Hi Ho Hi Ho its back to St. Vincent we go!

Well my 6 month visit home came and went....sigh.....but I am happy to report that we made it back in one piece and Katelyn was actually pretty good with all the flying it takes to get here, for those of you who don't know she is a MENACE! Love her to the moon and back but man is she a busy little girl!

Gearing up to come back was almost as eventful as coming the first time around...we packed and unpacked and repacked and finally gave up! We had some serious issues with motivation as far as booking our flight but the harder part was committing to a day to come back! LOL we were planning on flying out last Friday but then that changed to Saturday which thanks to our local high school baseball team quickly changed to Sunday!

So after a full day of baseball on Saturday we were up bright and early Sunday...2:30a.m. early and let me tell you what I was ready to change the flight to Monday! We got all of our stuff loaded and made it to the airport with plenty of time to spare we got checked-in said our goodbyes and headed through security.....oh airport security how I loath thee.....totally grateful for all that they do to keep everyone safe but with kids it can be a nightmare! NOT THIS TRIP! We were selected for the new speedy security check thingy they are doing now.....so so nice with the kids! You don't have to take off any clothing or shoes just empty your pockets and put everything on the belt and hand them Kate's bottle! We zipped right through and were done in no time! Then comes the delay....I just knew the morning couldn't be that smooth our flight was delayed 30 min from SLC so we would only have enough time to grab something to eat while on the next flight and get to our next gate!  Now as stupid as this sounds having to choose your last meal in the United States for the Next 7 months can be hard...Kohl saw a Wendy's right by our gate and was sold he was having Chicken Nuggets no one was going to sway that decision Jacob and I were a little harder to sell so we walked down to the last food court where we ate the time before and had of course Panda! I savored every bite of that meal on the flight to Trinidad before I fell into a coma!

4 hours later I wake up and look over at Jacob and say "how long have I been asleep?" his response...."uh the whole flight"....well now wonder why it went by so fast! We had an awesome tail wind going for us so we were about an hour ahead of schedule, so I had an hour to fill out our customs paperwork and get everything in order to clear immigration which I have done twice already so it has become pretty easy.

Finally we land in Trinidad and to my surprise when I walk off the plane I can breath! The humidity isn't nearly as bad as what I had geared myself up for in fact my hair stayed pretty straight! We get through immigration but not before the immigration officer tells us we are "crazy Americans" for spending the night in the airport with the two kids we just laughed and said we have done it before  she was flabbergasted it was pretty funny!

Immigration done! Customs here we come! Hey look at that nothing to claim....just keep walking right through! We find us a cozy spot in the food court and get ready for the long night ahead of us we talked to our families and watched a couple of movies and I just had to have me a chicken patty from the coffee shop....seriously love those things beef ones are better but the chicken was good too!

We finally migrate to the check-in desks about 3 am and wait for it to open, so what do I do?... Join the kids and fall asleep....I swear all I have done in the last 24 hours is eat, sleep and fly.....I was so tired and they keep in -45 degrees in the Trinidad airport so you would think that would keep me awake NOPE fell right to sleep!

Finally time to check-in and the bag checker guy is slower that cold tar running up hill in winter and he is opening EVERY single bag and checking it...not to mention he weighs maybe 95lbs soaking wet with every article of clothing on that he owns and rocks in his pockets that he found on his way to work that morning ....so its taking every ounce of energy to lift the bags up on to the table from this guy I am not even joking Kohl could take this guy with one arm tired behind his back and one leg off the  ground. As we are waiting for our turn all I can think about is what happens when someone gets mad at this guy and  starts to argue with him???  Well finally our turn and I tell him "I can lift it for you" he says "it be fine" okay man its all you 30 seconds later he finally gets the bag on the table searches it and slides/drops it as he is lifting it down off the table...he sees I have 3 more very large suitcases behind me and says "just go ahead"....bahahahah it was pretty funny made my morning.

Finally we are boarding our last flight of the trip and it is a beautiful morning you could see all the Grenadine Islands really clear the whole way to St. Vincent. We land and head in to Immigration which takes an hour and then customs they let us right through. We get in a taxi and head for home we get our luggage in the house and Jacob is getting ready to go to school and the kids are half asleep on the bed watching a movie I am about to join them when I hear a holler from the front porch...Jacob beats me to it and its the Elders they have an investigator who has possibly broke his foot and wants to know if Jacob can look at it....Welcome back to St. Vincent!

Yep....really bad at these updates

So...here we are ready for another blog update! its only been 3+ months!!

After my parents left St. Vincent it took us a week or so for us to get back into the swing of things, we got back to our somewhat regular routine and planned at lot beach days and oh ya getting ready to leave for UTAH!

We had pretty much made the decision that the kids and I were going to be returning to Utah for Jacobs sister Allynne's wedding the beginning of November. We had to wait out Jacobs school schedule to see if he was going to be able to come with us. In order to make the  weeks we had go by fast we intended to spend as much time at the beach as we could....well the lovely unpredictable Caribbean weather rained on our parade....literally buckets and buckets for 6 weeks almost every day we had rain Kohl was so unhappy he wanted to go snorkeling before we left to come back to Utah, which was really sad for Jacob and I as well cause he finally had something he WANTED  to do in St. Vincent and he couldn't go!

Well we got the word that Jacob was going to have a test week the week following Allynne's wedding so we knew there was no way he could miss 3 days of school leading up to a test...so my fate was sealed! I was going to be making the trip ALONE with the 2 babes. I was terrified! If you haven't read my blog post about flying to St.Vincent  now would be a good time to do that so you can more fully understand just exactly how I feel about flying!

We continued to pass the days with activities in the house and I think we did manage to make it to the pool one time before we were supposed to leave but we got poured on so we were only there about a hour. Hey we made it to water before we left though!!

Packing.....Packing oh for the love I HATE packing I would rather have a root canal done through my left nostril on the right side of my mouth than pack! You getting a clear picture here?? Okay just thought I should check! Packing with kids is like wiping before you poop....totally unproductive! I put something in the bag and they pull it out, I put something else in and walk into the other room and when I come back all the clothes are out and Kohl has zipped Kate up in the suitcase....LOL I love my crazy life! I  was able to finally get us all packed up to go i just finally waited for everyone to go to bed!

Well the day of our scheduled flight was here and we were super excited to get going but i was begining to realize what i was about to do with just my self and the two kids......but i will save the rest of this story for another post!

Until next time.....

A much needed update!

So....blogging....yeah....I really stink at this! I can't believe that it has been over a month since I updated! I have no idea where to even start!

First off my parents made it here safe and sound...they also made it home safe and sound! I am going to use that as my excuse for neglecting the blog! We had such an amazing time while my parents were here, we were able to see everything we set out to see and we even hiked the volcano! Yay I can cross that off of my island bucket list! it was an amazing experience to sit on the edge of an active volcano and watch the smoke come out of the cone in the middle of the crater! I would have to say it was my favorite thing we did while my parents were here! It is so hard to believe that this kind of natural beauty exists I mean don't get me wrong Utah is the most beautiful place on the planet but St. Vincent is a close second, with a volcano on one side of the island and Dark View waterfalls on the other side of the island it makes me wish I had a car all the time! we spent loads of time at the beach as well while my parents were here they brought us all down snorkeling gear when they came and we put it to good use! I have never realized everything that is going on right under your feet when your in the ocean, the water here is so clear that you can see the fish swimming around you ankles but you can't really see what color they are or anything, we snorkeled for hours and hours and saw amazing fish and all kinds of crabs, sea snakes, eels, star fish and my dad and Jacob even found an octopus! What an adventure!

It was an amazing time had by us all, we really enjoyed my parents coming to visit, it was hard to see them leave but Christmas is right around the corner and we are looking forward to being home for a month!

Speaking of home...I need to give another shout out my sister in law Sarah and congratulate her and Tyson on there Engagement! We are so excited for them and are looking forward to sharing there special day with them while we are home on Christmas break! Love you both!

As for our new place we have adjusted well and are liking it okay here but alas we continue to look for cheaper housing....have I mentioned how much I HATE moving.....nuff said....it is a constant battle here to find housing but we are hoping to get into some other apartments when a few of the upper term kids leave the island so keep your fingers crossed for us!

Kohl is doing really well here on the island he loves going to the beach and playing outside, we started his home schooling 2 weeks ago and lets just say he is REALLY missing Mrs. Fletcher right now! He tells me every time we have school, "mom I am going back to Nephi Utah and going to my teacher's house Mrs. Fletcher so I  can be ready for Kindergarten!" Mercy me someone please help me! for anyone asking why in the heck are we home schooling Kohl let me give you a little background Kohl had 1 year of pre-school before we came to St. Vincent and Mrs. Fletcher did amazing things with him, he is already extremely smart and catches on the things very quickly! When we moved to St. Vincent we were told to put him in private school that's what all of the other students that had kids did and the public school system is ....well....way less than perfect here BUT private school is outrageous here I mean were talking $1,300 USD a MONTH not a year a MONTH...in case some of you have forgotten.....WE ARE MEDICAL STUDENTS! How on earth the other student afford to pay that is beyond me but it is not in our budget so that is why we resolved to homeschool the little tyke! Please let him take after his father and love school!!

Kate is adjusting okay as well she has had a rough few weeks, 6 of her top teeth all decided to come in at the same time....lets just say there were two days there that I am positive no one got any sleep at our house! She finally got all of them in and is feeling much better she has developed a love for Sam the dog lately she loves to stand by the screen door and pant in his face while he looks her over through the screen. Kate is our little drama queen 13 months old and already throwing herself to ground when she doesn't get what she wants, kohl asked me the other day if we could go to the hardware store? and I was like what do you need at the hardware store? "Duck tape for Katelyn's mouth!", So yes we are defiantly in for the log haul with her! Why did I have to have a child JUST like me?? Love that sweet girl!

I guess that is another event I should tell you all about! Our sweet little diva turned 1 while my parents were here visiting us! She had a great birthday and loved all of her new toys and clothes, she wasn't too sure about the whole cake eating thing we had to help  get started but once she tasted the frosting she was sold! I can not believe it has been a year! Where did the time go??

All in all things are going great here! We have adjusted to Island life and are living it one day at a time, we are so grateful for our of the  love and support we get from everyone back home we would truly be lost with out all of you!

Until next time....

New Adventures!

It has been so long since I have blogged I had to go back and read my last post to see what I had told you all!

We have been super busy the last few weeks!

First off WE MOVED! We left campus housing and took the plunge to get our own place! We are enjoying it, it is really nice to be closer to the school and closer to the church! Jacob now has a 2 min walk to school and it is about a 10 min walk to church! We were able to find a place close to the main road as well so it is still easy for the kids and I to catch the bus to town! We also love our neighbors! Who wouldn't love having the Elder Missionaries for neighbors! We love Elder Creech and Elder May! Our new place is a lot smaller than the campus housing we were in but we manage just fine! We still have 2 bedrooms but were downsized to only 1 bathroom but it has been fine so far.... I am loving not having to worry about Katelyn crawling on to the kitchen counter or falling through the banister! We also have 2 dogs here at our new place and the puppy has pretty much adopted us, he sleeps on our porch and goes crazy when the kids go outside to play with him, his name is Sam and he is a really good dog but he likes to bite my legs when I am wearing my running shoes, I think its the shoe laces he isn't used to seeing people with strings on there feet!

Our second adventure of moving was of course DRIVING! I was so terrified of driving down here since they drive on the opposite side of the road but it was actually fun, the blinkers and the windshield wipers kind of threw me off for a while but luckily it was raining a little bit so I didn't stand out as bad when I was trying to turn and all of a sudden my wipers were going full blast! Jacob did the downtown driving for me I was too nervous to attempt that myself but he did great, they have a lot of one way streets downtown here and I have been known in the past to go the wrong way on a one way street!

We also have officially hit the end of Jacobs first term of medical school! He took his final exam on Tuesday and is now on a much needed 2 week break! I can't believe how fast time is going by we have almost been here 4 months! Jacob has done exceptionally well in school he really buckles down and does what he needs to do to stay at the top of the class! He is going to enjoy his break because next term is said to be one of the toughest terms of school! He will take his first shelf exam next term! We are also excited to not be the new kids on campus anymore as well, they have a pretty large class coming in for September and we are excited too meet all of the new students!

We love getting news from home as well! Jacobs sister Allynne got engaged 2 weeks ago and we are ecstatic for her and here fiancé Ruben! Allynne has been amazing to us we would really be lost without her! We are excited to meet Ruben when we come home for Christmas and Kohl can't wait to have another uncle to play with! Congrats again Allynne and Ruben! We love you both!

I am currently on the count down as most of you know my parents are coming to visit us!! By this time next week the should be waiting in Huston to board their plane for Trinidad and then its on to us in St. Vincent! I have never wanted a week to go by so fast in all my life! I can't wait for them to get here! Kohl is so excited he can't wait to go to the beach with grandma and grandpa, and Katelyn will just be excited to see them in person the whole Skype and Facetime thing just doesn't make sense to her she still tries to pull the Ipad down and look behind it for them!

Well I posted a few pictures on Facebook a week or so ago but I will repost a few on here for you too! Until next time......
Katelyn and her ledge! So glad this is gone, see her plotting how to get over to the counter!
Such and innocent little face, for this little turkey
This is his Just got fed face!
                                                              Our sweet rented ride!
